ABOUT US - HOW WE STARTED

As a family venturing to tropical destinations, we noticed a gap in the market for resort wear and swimwear that combined quality and style. We sought clothing that would look great and feel comfortable during our Caribbean escapades, reflecting the vibrant and laid-back atmosphere of our destinations. To our surprise, we found few options that met our criteria. This prompted us to embark on a journey to design high-quality, eco-conscious clothing. Each piece we create is a testament to this journey, meticulously crafted with care and attention to detail, ensuring that you not only look good but feel good, too.

Mary has always felt a strong connection to her tropical roots through activities such as diving, snorkeling, and enjoying the beach with her husband, Neil. Her passion for marine biology and fashion has inspired her to create a vibrant Caribbean apparel collection that holds deep personal significance. Having grown up in Miami, and lived in Key West and New York, she has experienced both the hustle and bustle of city life and the tranquility of the Florida Keys. Mary is deeply involved in all aspects of our clothing design and production. She works closely with our talented artists, designers, and production team to ensure that every product is handmade with love.

Ollie and his wife Jessica enjoy the daily excitement of living in South Florida. With an emphasis on the outoors, the like traveling to new places (particularly Caribbean places!) and volunteering with the youth sports programs for their two children. Having been an avid scuba diver since his teens, Ollie splits his time between family and diving, but also loves to go hiking, backpacking, and skiing when the occasion presents itself. It is this love for the outdoors that directly motivates his increased participation in local and regional conservation efforts.

Nature's indescribable beauty deeply inspires our work. From the richness of cerulean oceans and the vivid hues of birds to the vibrant amber of sunsets, these natural wonders infuse our prints with life and color. We capture these scenes in photographs and share them with a talented artist who meticulously paints the individual elements needed for our designs. These elements are then digitized, completing our unique print design process.

HOW DESIGNS COME TO LIFE

Our designs are founded on the belief that everyone deserves quality, comfortable, and functional clothing. During our travels, we noticed a lack of authentic Caribbean-inspired resort wear, prompting our talented fashion designer to bring these unique designs to life. Each garment at Hopper Island is meticulously crafted to flatter all body shapes through our dedicated design and fitting process. Our mascot, River, graces every piece as a symbol of our commitment to protecting the environment. Beyond ensuring exceptional functionality and fit, we are dedicated to making our products eco-conscious, striving to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible.

RESORTWEAR HANDMADE WITH LOVE

We're passionate about reducing our carbon footprint, which is why we manufacture all of our garments in Colombia. From the fibers to the dyeing and fabric construction, everything comes to life in this beautiful country. Each thoughtfully designed piece is handcrafted at a family-owned sewing house in Manizales. To help conserve precious resources, our partner sewing house is powered by solar energy. We care deeply about social responsibility as well as the environment. The sewing house hires and trains women, especially heads of households, as seamstresses and in other skilled areas of apparel construction. We believe in being transparent about our manufacturing process and want to share how our Hopper Island family is dedicated to making a positive social and environmental impact.
